Keanu Reeves Has Been Running a Secret Cancer Foundation to Fund Children’s Hospitals

The likes of Matthew McConaughey, Michael Keaton, Glenn Close, Ben Affleck and Winona Ryder have all made unlikely comebacks in the past few years. However, our favourite has to be Keanu Reeves, who is still best known for his role in The Matrix, but the success of the John Wick movies have propelled him back into the upper echelon of film lover fandom.

There is potentially still a lot that we don't know about Keanu but what we do know is that he is very generous with his money, which he has been secretly donating to charities and hospitals for years. Way back in 2009 he spoke to Ladies Home Journal, where he confirmed that he has his own private foundation which aids children's hospitals and cancer research. He is reported to have said:

“I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research. I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does.”

In the past, the star has also lent his time to charity telethons, using his celebrity to encourage others to donate and help important causes.
“Public efforts found him manning the phones at a Stand Up to Cancer telethon in 2008. Stars like Reeves generously gave their time and used their star power to encourage fans to become callers, donors and participants in the efforts to heal cancer. Cancer research is extremely expensive. ABC Anchor Charles Gibson pointed out, ‘In the long run there’s a public awareness responsibility here that may be more important than the money.”

Other charities that Reeves has contributed to include SCORE (Spinal Cord Opportunities for Rehabilitation Endowment), which is a group that helps people living with spinal cord injuries.

The Bill and Ted actor is also said to have brought his mother a house, purchased motorcycles for the stunt crew on The Matrix and taken a wage cut in order for films to hire more expensive actors, such as Al Pacino in The Devil's Advocate.

All in all, Mr Reeves is a pretty cool guy.
